On what subject(s) are you an authority?
Everyone has a special subject. Something they could talk about for 15 minutes in some detail and with great passion.
I know a little about a lot of things (master of nothing, right!). But I can confidently say that the thing I know most about is learning. I love learning and the process of learning.
There are so many ways to learn, different methods for engaging with new concepts and a countless channels for sourcing information to extend your thinking.
What are the key traits for being an active and engaged learner no matter what your age or capability?
Consider:
A) Be open minded,
B) Read, listen or watch something new everyday,
C) Find an expert and talk or listen to them explain the concept,
D) Commit to being curious and asking questions,
E) Embrace the idea of failure so you are not afraid to try something new.
I have adopted these traits recently as I have taken up hiking as a hobby. I’m learning about the capability of my body and how far I can push it to its limits. I’m learning about footwear, hydration and geography. Lots to learn but lots to love too. I’ve never been a hiker or even done much bushwalking, so I am embracing this new activity and everything I am learning along the way. See the location of our most recent hike in the photo below.

Adopting the traits of an active and engaged learner is a great way to embrace The Second 50.
