Social media is my cryptonite

Which activities make you lose track of time?

Social media has long been my cryptonite. But I’m sure I’m not the only one.

I’ve got accounts everywhere. Tik Tok, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter / X, Instagram, Pinterest, What’s App. Multiple pages, groups, accounts.

I’ve tried them for personal and business. And I’ve wasted a lot of time. Posting twice a day. Remaking the most popular reels. Trying to game the algorithm to get noticed. And all because a few men in suits tell me that’s how I need to engage with people I know. Sounds weird when I say it like that. Weird and wrong.

In ‘The Second 50’, it’s my time. No longer do I give my time freely. I write this blog because I choose to spend my time this way. With my thoughts. Reflecting. Drafting. Thinking. Sharing.

I’ve linked it to my Mastodon and Threads accounts, so I control what and when I post. I care less about followers and more about real connection. Leaving something behind that is meaningful, not just spammy.

This blog, despite the time I spend on it each day, has given me back a freedom I didn’t know I’d lost.

Use your time well, friends.
