If you had to give up one word that you use regularly, what would it be?
Not me. But now it seems like the perfect time to talk about the fact that I’ve really grown to dislike the word slay.
It seems to be everywhere now. And I don’t want to be a fuddy duddy. I mean, the Second 50 doesn’t mean I’m out of touch. It’s out there. I get it. It’s just that it seems like one of those lazy words. Thrown into the conversation to save having to use a bunch of other words.
Using the word slay seems, in my opinion, less than slay when, in fact, the formal or literary meaning refers to ‘violent killing’. My observation is that it’s rarely used in the correct formal context.
