Over the past few weeks, there has been much in the media about the cancellation of Adelaide Writer’s Week. The discourse that led to and followed the decision, has changed the art festival landscape in Adelaide forever. I wrote about it in poem form. Something new for me.
Festival vibes catch me
Festival vibes catch me,
Year on year,
A joy to be in Adelaide,
My home, I hold dear.
Mad March is nearing,
We have tickets in hand,
Then we start fearing,
As goodwill drains like sand.
Billed as a contest of ideas,
It is not to be now,
Reinstate were the pleas,
Said under furrowed brow.
The week now on pause,
We gather no more,
A new season will dawn,
Re-writing local lore.
